Chance For Hope Residence Program

Thousands of families throughout Texas, the United States, and the world travel to the Texas Medical Center in Houston each year for pediatric cancer treatments. Unfortunately, despite providing access to some of the best medical treatment in the world, there is a critical lack of affordable temporary housing within the Texas Medical Center area for families with children undergoing cancer treatment. These devastating cancer diagnoses and the unanticipated costs related to seeking treatment can present daunting financial challenges for any family. The centerpiece of the Chance for Hope Foundation’s support services mission is the Chance for Hope Residence.

The Chance for Hope Foundation signed its first apartment lease in November 2014 and now has multiple residences providing over 1,800 nights of free lodging annually. The Chance for Hope Residences are one-bedroom, fully-furnished apartments in the Texas Medical Center, provided at no cost to families traveling to Houston for pediatric cancer treatment. The residences are provided on a first come first served basis, and offer a shuttle service that provides quick access to Texas Children’s Hospital and the University of Texas MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and Proton Therapy Center.

The Foundation plans to expand this program to open additional residences as funding permits. Your donations will allow us to help even more families who are in need of our support.

For more information about the Chance for Hope Residence program, email us at info@chanceforhopefoundation.org or complete the application (links above).

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to confirm accommodation any sooner than one week prior to a family’s anticipated arrival date.

APPLICATION

We provide short-term, temporary housing. Most stays are between a few days to a few weeks. The Chance for Hope Foundation’s housing program is not intended for stays exceeding 6 weeks.

The Chance for Hope Residences are located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center at the Equinox.  The address is 2950 Old Spanish Trail, Houston, Texas 77054.

In order to accommodate as many families as possible, the Chance for Hope Foundation offers one bedroom units. However, each is equipped with a sofa that can be converted into a queen-sized bed. Some units may also have inflatable air mattresses that may be used.

All housing is provided free-of-charge as a result of the generosity of Chance for Hope Foundation donors. Any damage to units or property may result in fines and/or future inability to participate in program services. Donations may be made online here. Donations may also be made by check and mailed to P.O. Box 842044, Pearland, TX 77584.

Fill out the application linked at the top of this page and you will be contacted by a Foundation representative with additional required forms to complete.

Because treatment is unpredictable, the Chance for Hope Foundation makes every attempt to be as flexible as possible with the families currently residing in our units. As a result, we are NOT able to confirm accommodations any sooner than one week prior to a family’s anticipated arrival date. Applications may be submitted in advance of this time and dates may be “penciled into the calendar.” Families are encouraged in such instances to check back with the Chance for Hope Foundation one week prior to arrival date for a status update. ALL forms must be completed and emailed or mailed to the Chance for Hope Foundation before consideration.

All units are provided with towels, kitchenware, cooking utensils and other housewares. Families should plan to provide their own food, beverage, toiletries, cleaning products and other disposable items. All units are equipped with a full-sized washer and dryer and dishwasher.

Covered parking is available on the property at no charge. Shuttle service is also available to and from the Medical Center. A shuttle service schedule should be requested from the property’s leasing office upon arrival.

Once approved, keys to units may be retrieved during normal business hours at the property’s Leasing Office. Please note that holiday hours may vary.

Unfortunatly, we are unable to accomodate pets in our residences.

We are able to accommodate up to four familiy members in a residence.

Yes, a $500 deposit will be required upon move-in. This deposit is fully refundable provided that the residence is left in the condition you received it.
